What's Happening at our first school
Creating Connections:
We have connected our children and their classmates with children at the Rock Foundation
School (RFS). Children here in Boulder, Colorado have written letters, sent photos and made presents and educational
materials for the children of RFS. RFS children have written letters and created drawings for the children in Boulder.
Children in Boulder have seen a slide show about the Rock Foundation School and dialogued with their teachers about
what it means to have a sister school.
Supporting our friends at the Rock Foundation School:
Small actions on our part can mean big improvements at the Rock Foundation School. We provided the director,
Harbert Ganyana, with funds for a one year pilot project in 2006.
These funds were used to:
Hire a full time live-in security guard.
Install lockable doors and bars on windows to protect school from vandalism.
Develop a vegetable garden.
Pay for school lunches for the 29 neediest children.
Purchase math text books for the entire school.
Support a de-worming and sanitation program for the students.
Pay for a series of educational trainings for teachers.

Results of the 2006 pilot project:
A few incidents of
vandalism were prevented and there is a new sense of safety and security at school. Classrooms are now secure and
teachers have been able to hang educational materials on the walls.
Children are working in the gardens and there has been a tomato harvest.
A note from Angela Mulinda, Manager of Bead for Life office, Kampala, Uganda,
about the delicious tomatoes she received from the school's harvest.
29 impoverished children are now eating at least one cooked meal a day.
Textbooks are being used in classrooms.
Sanitation and healthy habits for students is a new focus.
15 Rock Foundation teachers spent 6 days in teacher trainings. Teachers have increased professionalism and
pride. Students benefit from teacher’s newly gained knowledge.
