First email communication from Harbert:
I'm Harbert Ganyana, Director of Rock Foundation School. I can't express
the joy I receive when I got your letter. It was such a great moment in my
life, my school, and all the members of the community. When I shared
about your letter with them surely they were very happy. My school is not
such a rich school and most of the children come from a poor background and
some are orphans. So when you talked of being involved and sponsoring our
school it was such a great moment for us. I don't know what to say right now but
just to say God bless you so much.
My school is in the city suburbs and the slum area of Kampala. I understand you talked about it with Torkin Wakefield. Some of our children don't pay school fees but others pay – it’s that money that we use to run the school.
Our education system in Uganda is quite interesting. Children depend much
on their teachers for the information they need and teaching children here is
not something easy because sometimes there are no materials to use but
children are attentive and they are eager to learn.
Now concerning the school project you talked about, that is good news but
challenging because as a school we have a number of projects we would
like to embark on e.g. we wanted to put up a classroom building, we wanted to
buy land for the school, we wanted to have play ground equipment for the school, and
also have computers at school. So when I shared your proposal with the
parents committee, we thought it wise that maybe you can decide and inform us.
The date you proposed for your coming I think it’s quite good because
that is when our school's calendars are coming to the end. That means we
will have good times with the children as well as teachers and parents. We
hope to share much with you and I believe it will be a new chapter in our school.
The parents are willing and ready to work with the group, which will come
to work on any project concerning the school. Is Boulder County School of
Integrated Studies a primary or secondary school? How do parents
participate in the daily running of the school? Here we have parents
committees, which see the planning and daily policies of the school.
I pray that this relationship will benefit the children, community as well
as the teachers and I hope we will share much. Please you are free to ask
me any question and we will be communicating more.
Thank you very much.
God bless you.
Yours Herbert Ganyana.
